Today is the last day to work on your assignment. Your three paragraphs are due at the end of the hour. Like yesterday, if you are finished early I will help you put other things onto your page such as pictures, videos, audio files, and links to other sites. During class I will also be writing down each student's username and posting it on the wiki over the weekend. Here are some exciting things we are doing next week:

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 15th-19th:

  • "Webpage of the Week": Each week I'll make special links to a handful of student web pages and explain why I think they are a Webpage of the Week.

  • Updated wiki sign-in page: This will allow each student to identify user names of other students.

  • Create Your Own Site: So far, students have just been learning the tools to create a single page. Next week each student will begin constructing their web site that will be used for core curriculum projects as well as their own interest.

  • Student Message System: Students will be able to send each other messages through their wiki pages, similar to email.

Have a great day today and remember to share your web pages with your friends and family!

Today we are working on finishing our three paragraphs. I've noticed that some of you are more interested in learning how to make your page really "pretty" instead of focusing on the assignment first. Remember, I'll show you how to do anything you want (if possible) on your page, but you first have to complete the assignment.

We're going to be separating the class into smaller groups today to make sure that all those students that need a little more help can get it. Remember that the assignment is due at the end of class FRIDAY, and if you think you can't get it done in class tomorrow you should be working on it at home.

Today Wikispaces.com was undergoing maintenance and so we were unable to edit our pages from school. Students were asked to attempt to edit their pages from home tonight if possible. The due date for the three paragraph assignment has been pushed to FRIDAY.

Tomorrow, students will be continuing to edit their pages if not finished. If, for some reason, the wikispace is still not operational we will finish the assignment on paper and edit our pages at a later date.

Today I also sent home a flier about my Virtual Classroom that provides the web address. Please put the Virtual Room on your bookmarks at home and check in on assignments. (remember, to reach my site there is NO "www" at the beginning. It is "http://")

UPDATE: The Wiki Sign-in Page has been accidentally deleted. Don't feel bad if it was you, anyone can make a mistake! I'm going to lock the page and update that information myself from now on. Have a great night!

Thank you all for being so cooperative today!

Today we'll start with a brief lesson about changing font size, style, and color. After that you will continue working on your three paragraphs from Monday. These paragraphs are due Thursday.

Also, today I'll be posting a new WIKI SIGN-IN PAGE. Sometime during the day I'd like you to edit the page and enter your student name (First name and last initial only) and your wiki sign-in name. It's important to know who is who!

Today, your assignment is to redo your initial page. I want you to write a couple paragraphs about the following topics:

1) Introduce yourself. Include your first name (no last names!), age, and what you like to do in your free time. BE SPECIFIC! If you like to play video games, I want you to give a couple examples of games you play. If you like to read books, what kind of books do you read?

Example:
Hello! My name is Lee and I am 32 years old. One of the things I like to do in my free time is play chess online. I used to play chess a lot when I was younger and I enjoy playing people I've never met. I also like to play role playing games online. Currently, I am a Dungeon Master for a mmorpg called "Neverwinter Nights" and I set up adventures for others. When the weather is nice I like to jog and play volleyball.

2) Describe a positive experience you had in school. Be detailed in your description.

Example:
I think one of the best school experiences I had was in college. I was struggling in my Quantum Mechanics class and actually failed my first test. I scored a 23/100 and was feeling pretty negative about myself. For the next two weeks I studied about 4 hours a night and was in my professor's office every day asking questions. The next test was a take-home test that was due in a week. I started the same day I got the test and worked over 6 hours a day on it. When I finally finished and handed it in I was nervous. Two days later I got the test back and scored 95/100! I don't like I've ever worked so hard in my life but it was worth it. I passed the class with a B.

3) What kind of a website do you think you'll want to create? What kind of information will you provide? Remember, the point of making any website is to communicate some kind of information. Who do you want to visit your website?

Example:
I'm interested in educational websites, so I think I'll probably create a website for teachers. It will be a place where they can download materials or other resources I've collected and use them in their classes. I already have my curriculum for Quantum Mechanics and Asian Literature posted online as well as some Directed Studies I've put together for students who are not engaged in their typical English class. I would like more teachers and parents to visit my sites!

Today I organized the student web pages into grade levels and classes. Hopefully you should be able to find your page faster!

We will go over Wiki Rules on Monday, but until then remember that you are allowed to edit only your own web page!
(If you feel someone else's page needs to be edited, send me a message on this wiki or an email at lwignall@lionsgateacademy.org and let me know what you feel needs to be changed)

Here are the students who still need to put up their first page:

Middle School students missing pages
Tony W.

High School students missing pages

Kerrie M.
James M.
Henry W.

Let's hop to it!

Congratulations to Jonathan N. who was the first student to access and edit his web page from home! Nice job Jonathan!
